Course Outline:

The Master of Comparative Religion course shares fascinating, comprehensive information about ancient and modern belief systems around the world with an emphasis on interfaith studies.

The discourses present the similarities in philosophy and practice between several popular religions as well as differences. This content offers ministers a solid foundation and background for understanding different cultural philosophies.

Some of the religions presented in the course include an introduction to Ancient Religions (Egypt, Mesopotamia) Christianity, Islam, Zoroastrianism, Hinduism, Buddhism and others.

The lesson content covers the following topics as well as others:

  • Ecumenical and Interfaith (Overview)
  • Esoteric and Exoteric
  • Overview of Beliefs of Different Faiths
  • Suffering, Death and Sin
  • Symbolism
  • Prayer
  • Religious Ceremony
  • Rituals and Ritual Objects
  • Liturgy
  • Sacred Literature
  • Doctrine and Dogma
  • Divine Messengers
  • Religious Titles and Roles
  • Evolution of Religion

This is a required course for completing our Chaplaincy Program.

Instructions are included in the course for where to submit any assignments, quiz and essay questions. A Course Final you submit will be reviewed by Faculty, and your completion certificate/diploma will be issued by the ULC Seminary Board of Directors.

Found Kythera Ann's course on Comparative Religion excellent.  For me it provided an excellent syntopic study of religions - and the contrast was done in a way that provided a thread of thought throughout for the observant student to follow.   I have to say it comes highly recommended by me to anyone wishing to take on a well-outlined well written course of this kind.  You will be tried to find some resources and there are good exercises - and some rather deep questions to ponder.  I recommend this course to all ordained yet or not, graduates, freshmen out of school; start here.

The college-level course brings the student through an introduction to all major religions, laying out doctrines, dogmas, practices, and histories clearly, and in a way that allows the student to compare and contrast them.

Very well-done and comprehensive course, and an essential guide to understanding religions and the people who practice them.

I feel it is very important to study the different religions and their beliefs to be knowledgeable about them when dealing with clients for different reasons, such as weddings, or funerals, etc. My dream is to teach some day, and the Comparative Religion lessons were so well written and the stories and pictures depicted the ideas that the author was trying to put across in an excellent fashion and done so well, and I want to be able to do that.
