Course Outline:
This thought-provoking course takes a holistic look at religion and spirituality through Philosophy.
You will review the schools of thought developed by the worlds most influential philosophers. The useful lessons will elicit an authentic approach for ministering to science-minded people.
This course begins with sharing the foundational work of some of the greatest philosophers of the ages. It then moves on to delve deeper into the development of their philosophies to explore how the expression of their work shapes our experiences each day.
Untangle what Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Nietzsche, Freud and others had to say about how spirituality is relevantly applied within different approaches to philosophy such as Empiricism, Marxism and Relativism.
Most importantly, the lessons approach topics of interest in an easy-to-understand format and includes some of the following and more:
- History of Western Thought
- Existentialism
- Religion vs. Science Debate
- Opinions vs. Knowledge
- Moral Relativity
- Stoics, Cynics, Skeptics
- Existing Animating Forces
- Determinism and Free Will
This is a required course for completing our Chaplaincy Program.
Instructions are included in the course for where to submit any assignments, quiz and essay questions. A Course Final you submit will be reviewed by Faculty, and your completion certificate/diploma will be issued by the ULC Seminary Board of Directors.
